Creative Flower Photography Course

Learn to see like an artist and create fine-art images of flowers and nature

Hold on to the Magic You Saw

A flower 🌸 stops youColour, Shape, Light – and you whisper “WoW

You take a photograph and carry the moment home.

Later that evening, you check what you’ve captured, and the image doesn’t quite sing.
It’s fine, but not how it felt; the magic is missing.

That’s the quiet gap between what we saw and what we made

If this sounds familiar, if you’ve ever thought,

Why doesn’t my photo look the way I remember it?

this course is for you!

Before: Nice Flower, Lost Feeling

Unedited flower photo with busy background; looks flat compared to the real moment.

After: The Magic Kept

Refined rose portrait with soft light and simple background; conveys the original mood.

Creative Flower Photography

Learn how to use your camera to keep the magic you saw!
Create beautiful images of nature you’ll be proud to share and print.

This one-day, hands-on creative workshop is designed to change the way you see and photograph flowers, orchids, leaves, and natural textures.

We slow down, simplify, and make intentional choices: where to focus, how to shape the light, what to include (and leave out) in the frame. You’ll learn to translate that wow moment into sharp, elegant images with depth, clean backgrounds, and beautiful colour – consistently.

This course is for you if you want to:

  • Stop relying on “lucky shots” and start taking pictures on purpose
  • Understand focus, light, and backgrounds specifically for flowers and nature
  • Create amazing images you’re proud to print, frame, gift, or even sell
  • Spend an inspiring day learning in a world-class garden with guided practice

By the end of the day, you’ll carry a simple, repeatable process you can use anywhere – from Finca Drácula to your local park or kitchen table. Less guessing, more making!

Is my camera suitable?

You can join with any camera – even a mobile phone. A phone plus a simple clip-on macro lens and a good photo app can do a lot. For the best results (and the most creative control), a DSLR or mirrorless camera is ideal, because you can use macro lenses and fine-tune focus and depth of field. If you have any camera questions – please get in touch!

Start using your camera CREATIVELY

A calm, practical way to turn “that was lovely” into “this looks great!” Whether you bring a phone or a DSLR/mirrorless, we’ll mix creative seeing with just enough technique to make it repeatable.

  • Focus with intention: quick autofocus habits for sharp petals; simple manual focus tricks for dreamy abstracts and soft edges.
  • Handle the breeze: choose a steady shutter speed to freeze wind—or slow it for a gentle, painterly blur.
  • Keep quality high: use ISO wisely for clean files; when to shoot RAW (best for colour and printing) and when JPEG is fine.
  • Tones and natural colours you can trust: a no-stress primer on metering so whites stay white and reds don’t blow out.
  • Light you can shape: find flattering shade, use simple diffusion/reflectors, and make petals glow with backlight.
  • Clean, calm backgrounds: separation, angle, and “shooting through” for depth and beautiful bokeh.
  • Compose with confidence: fill the frame, balance space, rule of thirds (and when to ignore it), guide the eye.
  • Phone or camera, your choice: clip-on macro tips for phones; macro and zoom lenses, extension tubes and close-up filters for cameras.
  • A gentle editing routine: a few sliders—colour, micro-contrast, local masks—for a polished, natural look.

flower photography course - Who is this course for?

From First Coffee to Final Image

We begin with coffee, set simple goals, and ease into a clear, visual presentation that makes sense of aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, and focusing. Then we head outside for bite-sized demos and hands-on practice.

After a relaxed lunch, we shift into creative play: composition walks, abstraction, colour harmony, and shooting through for depth. You’ll get personal feedback as we review images on the spot, then finish with a quick, repeatable edit and mini image review — leaving with a simple checklist and a calm process you can use anywhere.

Come as you are—no prior course needed; bring what you have and I’ll help you make the most of it.

  • Phones welcome: iPhone/Android work great; after booking, tell me your model and I’ll suggest 1–2 simple apps (capture + edit).
  • Cameras: bridge, DSLR, or mirrorless all welcome.
  • Best results: a macro lens, a kit lens with a close-up filter, or a longer zoom.
  • Nice to have: spare battery, microfiber lens cloth.
  • Tripod: optional (useful, but not required).
  • Not sure about gear? Message me your phone/camera and I’ll advise before you book.
flower photography course - what to bring?

I’m Roland Pokrywkaphotographer, educator, and course author. I’ve taught thousands of students in London studios and at international festivals (including Xposure). My teaching is calm, clear, and practical: no jargon, just small wins that add up fast.

For over a decade I’ve run small-group photography workshops that focus on real results – seeing differently, working simply, and building confidence with every frame. Now based in Volcán, I design classes shaped by the light and orchids around me, so you leave with beautiful images and a repeatable process you can use anywhere.
